A four-story home we designed and completed about 15 years ago and a project we still love looking back at.
The house was organized around one of its greatest assets: the river view. Every main living space was positioned to take advantage of it, making the landscape a constant part of the interior.

A charming kids’ room designed as part of our apartment interior project.

We wanted this space to feel warm, playful, and comfortable without making it overly “childish”—a room that works beautifully now and can easily grow with its young owner.

Even the smallest rooms deserve the same attention to layout, atmosphere, and detail as the rest of the home.

This Ballard remodel reimagines a charming 1926 Seattle home while preserving the character that made it worth saving. We kept the most expressive original features, expanded the usable second floor, and completely reworked the interior for more comfortable everyday living.

Perched at the top of a slope, the home looks across Puget Sound toward the Olympic Mountains. The updated layout turns the key living spaces toward that view, while stucco, copper wall shingles, and exposed timber beams bring warmth and a contemporary layer to the exterior.

A concept design for a multifamily residential building with underground parking and a small café tucked into the courtyard.

The site is surrounded by dense urban development and shaped by strict city regulations, so the challenge was not just to design a building, but to make the most of a very limited set of possibilities.

We focused on creating a clear, restrained architectural language while still giving the project its own identity and making the courtyard feel like a real shared place—not just leftover space between buildings.

A hallway doesn’t have to feel like wasted space.

In this apartment project, we turned a transitional area into something both highly functional and visually engaging. The goal was to create a clear, inviting path from the entrance to the living room, while keeping the many secondary spaces along the way from visually taking over.

The result is a hallway that quietly organizes the apartment, guides you through it, and still feels like an intentional part of the interior—not just a passage between rooms.

We spent some time at the Seattle Design Festival this week.

Some of the installations were genuinely unique and thought-provoking. Others… we’re still not entirely sure what we were looking at. 😄 Our unofficial conclusion: the smaller the studio or team behind the installation, the more interesting the result usually was.

And a couple more photos from this week at the newly updated Olympic Sculpture Park—another place we never get tired of visiting.

A minimalist concept for a challenging site—and an unconventional way of organizing the house.

All living spaces are placed at the main-entry level, while the lower level is integrated into the slope and contains the garage, a private spa area with direct access to the backyard, and a covered patio.

Above the patio, the living room appears to float over the landscape, creating both a strong architectural gesture and a protected outdoor space below.

A modern, cozy, and comfortable primary bedroom designed as part of our apartment interior project.

The bedroom works as a complete private suite, with its own 14 m² walk-in closet and a dedicated workspace—everything needed for both everyday comfort and a little privacy.

The suite also includes a spacious bathroom with a freestanding tub and separate shower, creating a calm, relaxing space at the end of the day.

This is what green architecture means to us—not just adding a few “sustainable” features, but choosing natural, durable materials that work together and age beautifully. In addition to all advanced energy-efficient engineering systems and technologies that are integrated into the design

For this project, we used 10-inch-wide glued-laminated timber logs, natural clay roof tiles, stone finishes, and wood windows. Together, they create the warmth, durability, and character that feel just right for a country home.

At SOZDAN DESIGN, we know and enjoy working with different construction systems and materials. We are not limited to light-frame construction—even though it is still the right solution for many of our projects.
